We live in a technologically complex civilization on a world dominated by the shear number of humans occupying every corner of the globe. Because of our success, we sometimes lose sight of the fact that our species is but emerging from the darkness of ignorance and superstition. Genesis is a work of fiction set some ten's of thousands of years ago, an ancient time when humans had to fight daily to survive. Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten. For the vast majority of our species history, knowledge was passed from generation to generation by the telling of stories. Only after we invented writing did humanity begin to emerge from this fog of uncertainty. Genesis is a snapshot of our distant past where every wind gust rustling through the trees was irrefutable evidence of spirits, where every thought was put in your mind by a god.
